Uncle Always Two Years Behind in Internet Discourse

Uncle John reportedly logged onto Facebook today and saw a great, thought-provoking, meme about an issue, and it was such a great meme that John used it shape his opinion about the issue. But little did John know that he had accidentally consumed a meme from two years ago, and on an issue that had already been resolved.

Now John is perpetually stuck in the paradigms of discourse from two years ago. From unironcally referring to those with differing political opinions as, “sheep,” or unironically telling people to, “wake up,” or, “read a book,” or even using the term, “woke,” in a positive context, Uncle John cannot seem to stop himself from being two years behind in his discussions on matters in the world.

Recently, Uncle John blamed a contemporary issue on what he termed, “SJWs,” an acronym for the term, “Social Justice Warrior,” which was a diminutive term for those demanding gender or racial equality that was popular among right wing commentators until it became an eye-roll-inducing cliché by 2018.

There is no telling whether or not Uncle John will ever get with the times.
