Pope Francis: “Americans Need to Learn the Correct Way to Pick and Choose Which Parts of the Bible t
“Americans are puzzling to me,” said the Pope, “If they think same-sex marriage is wrong, then why do they eat lobster and wear two different types of fabric at the same time?”
The Pope asserted his belief that American Christians do not understand the, ‘Correct,’ way to use the bible to justify their prejudices and bigotry. “Americans seem not to care,” said the Pope. “It is as if they do not even realize that they contradict themselves.”
According to the Pope, Americans should not just pick out the parts of the bible they like and live by those parts while ignoring others, because that makes them appear to not actually be living by Christian values.
“If one must interpret the Old Testament as the laws by which to live in response to discomfort with the lifestyle of another human being, then he or she must abide by all of the statues the Old Testament contains,” said the Pope. “The reason for the existence of the New Testament is to improve upon the Old Testament and teach values of peace and tolerance rather than capital punishment and violent consequences for one’s actions, but if one must resort to adopting the statues of the Old Testament in order to validate one’s prejudices, then he or she must adopt them fully.”
The Pope says he will be praying for Americans, and asking the Lord to allow them to realize the errors they have made in their judgments.
