Charlotte: Local Looter and Street Criminal Explains His Reason for Participating in the Protest
Protests in Charlotte intensified yesterday as more destruction and damage has been done. But what lies at the heart of the Violence and Looting? The Daily News Report went to investigate.
In order to get the pulse for the attitude and message of the protestors in Charlotte, The Daily News Report went down on the streets and selected a random individual in the thick of things. With reports of rampant criminal activity and looting in Charlotte, we were determined to get right to the source of the protests and interview a man participating in the looting.
“I just picked up this brand new 50” LCD TV screen,” bragged Kenneth Williams, 49, of Charlotte. “I deserve it anyway because I work hard and get no respect.”
Mr. Williams describes himself as a hardworking man who’s constantly down on his luck. “I got about six kids,” he says, “A couple of them live here in Charlotte, and I think the others live in a different town now. All their mothers crazy, though. They keep coming to me asking me for money to feed them, and I tell them, ‘You wanted them, so you feed them.’”
Mr. Williams claims his older brother always helps him out when he’s in a tough spot. Marcus Williams, 53, lives outside of Charlotte and owns his own law firm, according to Kenneth.
“Marcus always wanted to get s#&t done growing up,” explains Kenneth. “Always studying for school, even on the weekends. I always ask him why he never took time to have some fun, and he always told me he wanted to make something of himself first. That’s the difference between us: he’s about business and getting s#&t done, and I just like to work to make a living and enjoy myself.”
When asked how his older brother typically helps him, Kenneth told us, “Well, whenever one of those crazy mothers of my kids come to me and ask me for money, Marcus fixes everything for me. That’s what brothers are for: we got each other’s backs.”
But the most important issue, of course, was Kenneth’s stance on the protests: why was he protesting and why was his method of protesting the action of looting electronics stores? When asked for his opinion, Kenneth responded, “I don’t watch the news. I don’t even know what’s going on right now, but I saw someone break the window of some stores, so I decided to help myself to some things I deserve. I shouldn't have to work as hard as I do and not be able to afford this s#&t.”
It turns out that, shockingly, Kenneth Williams is unaware that there is a protest in Charlotte. To our amazement, he is, in reality just a street criminal, and is not involved in the protests or spreading the message that the protests intended to spread.
To be thorough and to obtain a larger sample size, The Daily News Report interviewed over a dozen other looters and found them to be similar in profile to Kenneth. One of them even robbed our cameraman at knifepoint.
So the truth about the violence is shocking: the criminals do not actually represent the movement or the message the protestors originally wished to spread. This will come as shocking news to the general public, as most seem to feel the protest is in fact about conducting acts of violence and looting.
